This is a traditional market held on the 3rd, 8th, 13th, 18th, 23rd and 28th of each month. It is one of the representative local markets in Korea including the Hwagae market where traders and consumers from Yeongnam and Honam region meet. People from Hadong, Gokseong, Namwon, Suncheon and Gwangyang gather here to revitalize the market. What makes this market so famous is the wild vegetables and herbs. In addition to various wild vegetables such as matsutake, bracken, codonopsis lanceolata, chwinamul, and green tea produced in Jirisan Mountain, herbal medicines such as angelica gigas, gamboge, and angelica dahurica are also traded here. There is also a lot of chestnut, plum and persimmons traded here, including the specialty of Gurye, Cornus officinalis.
